Varnish development with antimicrobial, oxygen and water vapor barrier properties and improved physic-mechanical properties, to be used in food industry


NOFIMA has approximately 470 employees and an annual turnover of 58 million €. NOFIMA conducts research and provides services within industrial economics and strategic, management, consumer and marketing research, processing technology, food and health, consumer and sensory sciences, food safety and quality, raw materials and process optimization. The food safety and quality division of NOFIMA has both equipment and know-how for all types of food and food-packaging related issues including facilities for handling of pathogens.

Both microbiological, chemical (volatiles and non-volatiles) and sensory related quality and safety aspects of packed food can be studied at NOFIMA. Personnel from the division are continuously very active in the development of new packaging concepts, involving new barrier materials as well as active packaging solutions. In addition to a food packaging pilot plant the division has processing facilities for baking, fruit and vegetables, fish and meat. The Norwegian certifying body for “Food contact materials” is on the premises and is staffed with personnel from the division.
